Why Story Matters: A Community Foundation Case Study

The Community Foundation didn’t need another video telling people what they do. They needed a story that made people feel their work matters.

"You can have beautiful cinematography, great music and a great edit, but if nobody cares about what you're saying, none of that matters."

Where the Story Began

The original request was simple, create a 15-second video that could raise awareness at a local baseball stadium.

This project reinforced something we believe deeply at Connect Films, beautiful filmmaking only matters when the audience cares about the story.

A Story That Started Small

When the Community Foundation reached out to us, they were looking for a video to raise awareness at a local baseball stadium. Their initial instinct was to focus on the numbers: the programs they offer, the resources they provide, and the impact they make.

Those things matter. But we knew there was a more powerful way to communicate that impact.

Whose life is different because the Community Foundation exists?

Instead of simply explaining what the Community Foundation does, we wanted to show what it means to the people they serve. We created a short documentary-style impact film centered on parents sharing the story of their son, Clayton, and the lasting impact his life had on their community.

We also created two 15-second cutdowns for advertising, but the full story became the heart of the campaign.

The story traveled far beyond the stadium.

In a little over 3 months the video generated 48.5K views on Facebook and 25K views on Instagram, with more than 2,300 interactions and 13 days of combined watch time. Most strikingly, the full story has been watched for its total length approximately 6,500 times.

The numbers mattered because they showed something simple.
People didn’t just scroll past. They stayed with the story.

Partnering with Connect Films on our video project was a fantastic experience. Their attention to detail and deep understanding of our vision resulted in a high-quality video that not only exceeded our expectations but also attracted new followers to our organization.
We look forward to working with the team at Connect Films on future projects.

Before You Make Your Next Video

Ask three questions:

  • Who is the person we’ve had an impact on?

  • How have we changed someone’s life?

  • Why should someone care?

There may be a story hiding inside your organization. Let’s find it.
